As you progress through the game, characters will move around the world and find new things to talk about. Try talking to characters multiple times to hear everything they have to say! Ask the Soothsayer for hints ---------------------------- The Soothsayer in Melody Village often has a hint to help you along if you get stuck or forget where you are going next. Apparently their pet cat can help you find those missing treasure tokens too, if you can find a way to understand their meowling! Avoid touching the spiky cacti and climb the stairs to exit north into Melody Village. (The cacti can be easily avoided by walking along the shoreline.) Enter the south-east shed from behind and push the topmost block to the right to collect [TOKEN02]. Exit the shed and head west then north to reach the Timbre Woods. Walk behind the trees to the right to collect [TOKEN03]. Exit south-east and walk behind the trees to exit south. Collect [TOKEN04] from behind the village houses. Return to the entrance to the Timbre Woods and walk behind the trees to exit north-east. At the stream walk down behind the trees to cross the lower bridge and follow the hidden path around to the north-east. From the north-east bridge walk right over the stream and exit east to find the secret Forest Glade. Read the sign to learn [CODE1]. Return to the north-east bridge, take three steps north, then move left into the trees. Exit north to collect [TOKEN05]. Return south and exit north along the path to reach a ladder. Take the ladder north, then take the ladder directly left. Walk behind the trees below to the right to collect [TOKEN06]. Take the ladder back, take one step right, and the move down behind the trees. Follow the hidden path and cross the bridge. Take two steps left behind the trees then move up. Follow the path up and right to the topmost ladder. Take the ladder to reach the north-west bridge. Climb back down the ladder and immediately walk south behind the trees to reach another ladder that leads to the south-west and [TOKEN07]. Retrace the route and exit north-west. Talk to Arabella to receive the key to the Spirit Shrine. Spirit Shrine [LEVL1] --------------------- Push the block up to complete the square and collect the key. Use the key to open the locked door and continue. Push the rightmost block down and exit right. Avoid the spikes and push the central block down to clear a path. Stand on the button to open the door and continue. Time walking anti-clockwise around the next room to avoid the retracting spikes and continue north. Navigate around the room to the chest to acquire the Spirit Sword. Cut down the bushes in the south-east to reach the button and open the door. Return to the central room, smashing pots as shortcuts. Most pots have a 1 in 3 chance of dropping a heart if you need to heal. From the central room exit west to reach the Shrine Pot Store. Avoid breaking the explosive pots, indicated by a jiggling animation. From the sign the exact route is left, down, down, left, left, up, left, left, down, left, left, up, up, left, left, left, then exit left. Approach the key to trigger a mini-boss. Three pots will appear, two of which are explosive. Attack the non-jiggling pot three times to beat the mini-boss and receive the key. Return to the central room, taking the shortcut along the top of the pot store. From the central room, use the key to open the locked door and continue north. Take one step right and move up to push a block upwards. Step up and push the block to the right. Smash the pots to the north-east to reveal a button. Push the third block up on the left to the left to reach and continue through the opened door. In the next room time stepping over the retracting spikes and continue west. The chest in the Shrine Garden can only be opened by reaching it without stepping on any of the flowers in the room. If you mess up, re-enter the room to reset the puzzle. The correct path is partially obscured by bushes which must be cut down. From the entrance the exact route is left, left, down, down, left, left, up, up, up, left, up, up, left, left, left, left, down, left, left, down, down, down, down, right, right, up, right, up, right, then open the chest above to receive a key. Return to the room with the locked door and push the block directly right from the door. Exit south to reset the puzzle, then return. Take one step right and move up to push a block upwards, then push the central block to the right. Use the key to unlock the door and continue north. Break all three pots to trigger the boss. Potlergeist [BOSS1] ------------------- Avoid the exploding pots and attack the ghost when they appear. Pots spawn in pairs and one will always spawn adjacent to the player (always directly in front unless that direction is blocked), so keep moving to avoid taking damage. To begin with the Potlergeist will appear every third round of pots. Each hit will extend the pattern by one round, so after taking one hit the Potlergeist will appear every fourth round, and after taking two hits every fifth. After three hits the Potlergeist will be defeated. Exit north and collect the Sacred Bell of Vitality! The Road to Tempo Castle [PART2] -------------------------------- After obtaining the Sacred Bell of Vitality, use the warp to return to the entrance to the Spirit Shrine and exit south. Talk to Arabella, then cut down the bushes in the north-west to collect [TOKEN08]. Exit south-west and walk right through the trees to collect [TOKEN09]. Instead of exiting the woods to the south, head north-east to find Arabella at the picnic spot and talk to her for [CONVO1]. (This conversation is easily missable if you leave the woods.) Return to the entrance to the Timbre Woods and exit south-east. Walk behind the trees to exit south into the back area of Melody Village. Walk behind the trees to the left of the houses and cut down the bush to continue west and collect [TOKEN10]. Push the blocks to reach the main street and cut down the bush to reach Arabella's house in the south-west. Talk to Arabella, then exit. Cut down the bushes to access the Treasure Shop to the north. Talk to the cap'n repeatedly to be rewarded with the Dino Plush and an extra heart. Exit the Treasure Shop and talk to the kid to the west to trade the Dino Plush for a Carrot. Head east and enter the top-middle house. Talk to the rabbit to trade the Carrot for a Fishing Reel. Head south back to the beach then go west to Bass Cove Fishing Spot. Talk to the fisherman to wake him up and trade the Fishing Reel for a Fortune Fish. Return east to find Arabella looking out to sea. Talk to her for [CONVO2]. Continue east along the beach and smash the pot to reach the remaining chest and collect [TOKEN11]. Return to Melody Village and enter the Soothsayer's Shop in the north-east. Talk to the Soothsayer to trade the Fortune Fish for a Scary Mask. Before leaving, smash the pot in the top-left and examine the bookshelf - you'll find this strategy guide! Exit the shop and smash through the pots behind it to collect [TOKEN12]. Next, cut down the bushes in the south-east corner of the village to reveal a ladder. Climb down into the cave of illusion and navigate past the invisible walls to collect [TOKEN13]. From the ladder the exact steps are up, up, left, left, down, left, down, left, left, up, up, right. Head back to the west side of Melody Village and revisit Arabella's house to collect [TOKEN14]. Also revisit the Treasure Shop to be rewarded with the Dog Whistle. Return east and cut down the bushes blocking the path out of Melody Village and into the Tonal Plains. While traversing the plains, beware the moles that pop up and throw stones in Leit's direction. Hitting a mole with the sword will force them underground, temporarily blocking the mole hole. Begin following the path and dodge around the mole in the south-west corner to collect [TOKEN15]. Cut down the bush to enter the cave in the north-east for a block pushing puzzle. Numbered left to right, push 5 up, 4 right, 1 down, and 2 left to collect [TOKEN16]. Exit the cave and continue east. Follow the path (cutting down the bush blocking the way) and enter the next cave in the north-east. Hit the moles to fill in the mole holes, allowing them to be walked over in order to collect [TOKEN17]. Exit the cave and continue further east. Cut down the bushes to reveal a path through the fields. Cut down the solitary bush to the east to reveal a ladder to the underpass. Press the button to toggle the switch blocks. From underneath the switch block preventing access to the chest, take two steps left and walk down into a hidden tunnel in the wall. A hidden button will toggle the switch blocks again, opening the path to the chest and [TOKEN18]. Press the hidden button again to exit via the right ladder. Continue through the fields and head east. Open the chest by the tent to collect [TOKEN19], then enter the tent and talk to the jester to trade away the Scary Mask. Talk to the ringleader to receive the Letter of Introduction in return. Backtrack through the fields to the central plains and head north to Interlude Bridge to find Arabella again, and talk to her for [CONVO3]. Show the guard outside the castle the Letter of Introduction to lower the drawbridge and continue north into Tempo Castle. Enter the south-west storehouse from above (directly south from the Potion Shop entrance). Break the pot in the top right corner, press the button beneath, and collect [TOKEN20]. Exit the storehouse and enter the central door into Tempo Keep. Tempo Keep [LEVL2] ------------------ Walk north into the throne room and approach the magistrate. After some dialogue, wake up in the prison cell. Read the message on the top wall for a clue to escape. The complete text reads "UNDOCK THE CRANK TO OPEN THE DOOR". Do so, then retrieve your sword from the chest. Break the pots to exit left. The guards in the dungeon will throw Leit back in prison if caught, requiring the above escape to be repeated. Fortunately the guards can only see in a straight line. Walk beneath the first set of blocks, then push the right hand block of the second set to the left into the guard's line of sight and walk above the blocks to get past unseen. (The guards in this room can also simply be walked around.) Exit west. Beware the turning guard and walk clockwise around the bottom of the room, avoiding their line of sight. Push the top-left block up to block the top-left guard's line of sight. Retrace the route anti-clockwise and exit north. Stand on the buttons in the order middle, bottom, top (as matching the number of torches on the right wall) to open the doors and continue north. Smash the pot in the left cell and press the button underneath to open the right cell. Press the button in the bottom left to close the left and middle cells. Talk to the first builder in the right cell to receive a key. Exit south and resolve the button puzzle to continue. In the next room push the nearest block down to block the top-left guard's line of sight and exit east. Push the leftmost block to the right and walk above to reach the locked door. Unlock it using the key and continue through. Push the right block up and the left block left to bypass the first guard. Time stepping up past the guard on the right (there are two safe tiles diagonally between the guards at the top of the room). Wait for both guards to look left and quickly exit to the right. Walk quickly along the bottom of the room, avoiding the arrows fired from the trapdoors, and continue east. In the next room move all the way right, up, right without stopping to avoid the arrows and exit east. Quickly move up past the first trapdoor, then walk right-to-left beneath the top trapdoor to bait an arrow. Use the window of time after the arrow has been fired to reach the north-west doorway. In the next room similarly bait the guard into shooting an arrow and move west when it is safe to do so. The next room requires more baiting of arrows by stepping out into the line of sight of a trapdoor then stepping back to safety. The second trapdoor must be walked over when it closes following an arrow being fired. Quickly wrap around to reach the chest in the centre of the room and obtain the Bombs. Press B to place a bomb above the cracked section of the south wall and move away to not get hurt by the explosion. Exit south through the hole in the wall, then west through the doorway. Approach the guard from behind and push the block upwards. Place a bomb behind the guard then hide to the right of the block. The guard will be knocked out by the explosion. Bomb the next guard, then place a bomb against the west wall between the torches and above the cracked block. Exit west through the hole in the wall. Destroy both cracked blocks, then push the centre block upwards and the block to its right rightwards. Destroy the top-right cracked block, bomb the cracked northern wall, and exit through the hole. Bomb the north wall of the right cell, where the builder was previously detained. Continue into an L-shaped room. Bomb the cracked blocks, being careful not to accidentally push any regular blocks in a way that will prevent progress. If you mess up, re-enter the room to reset the puzzle. Open the chest at the end to obtain the Dungeon Map. Return to the first room past the prison cell, with the two guards and previously locked door. Place a bomb beneath the cracked block to open a hole in the wall between the torches. Bomb the right guard then continue through the hole into the Gunpowder Store. Place a bomb directly above the chest, then stand to the right of the signpost to avoid taking damage. Place another bomb next to the remaining pot and move left to avoid the explosion. Push the top-right block down, the adjacent block to the right, and the block beneath the chest to the left. Open the chest to obtain the Compass. Return to your cell and bomb the cracked east wall. Step through into the second builder's cell and talk to them to hand over the map and compass in return for a key. Exit and re-enter the builder's cell so that they have left and examine the left side of the bookshelf to open the cell door. Exit south to find a secret room and [CODE2]. Return to the room with the three switches, bombing guards if desired to shorten the route. Bomb the cracked block to reach the locked door, unlock it with the key, and exit west via the stairs. In the carpeted room, place a bomb between the top left torches to open a hole. Inside, press the top button then the right button to light all of the torches and spawn a key. Collect the key, exit south, and unlock the door to exit the dungeon. Bomb the rock and re-enter the keep via the main entrance. Re-approach the magistrate to trigger the boss. Changeling [BOSS2] ------------------ Initially the "Corrupt Official Magistrate" boss will appear to trigger in the throne room, but simply step towards the magistrate to fall through a trapdoor into the lowermost dungeon. Place a bomb next to the prisoner to trigger the real boss! The Changeling can only be damaged using bombs, the sword is ineffective. In the first phase they will appear somewhere in the centre of the room and fire an electrical beam out horizontally. Place a bomb next to them as they appear and stand out of the way. Repeat this three times until they declare themselves defeated. Bomb the cracked north wall if it is not already destroyed and step through into the other room to see a chest in the centre. The chest is actually the Changeling in disguised and attempting to open it will cause Leit damage. Bomb the chest instead to trigger the second phase of the battle. The second phase is identical to the first except the Changeling will now fire beams both horizontally and vertically. Bomb them three more times to trigger more dialogue. Exit into the other room and note the two stools in the bottom left. Place a bomb above the right stool so that the explosion reaches the left stool on the diagonal. The Changeling will finally be defeated. Exit north, press both buttons to rescue the third builder and the true magistrate, then collect the Sacred Bell of Order! Scaling Overtone Mountain [PART3] --------------------------------- After obtaining the Sacred Bell of Order, use the warp to return to the entrance to Tempo Keep. Instead of exiting south, head north into the throne room and use a bomb to open the door behind the magistrate. Exit via the stairs and open the chest on the left of the castle roof to collect [TOKEN21]. Leave Tempo Castle and bomb the rock to the south-west of the drawbridge to reveal a ladder. Climb down into the cave and bomb through the cracked blocks to collect [TOKEN22]. A few more treasure tokens can now be collected from previous areas before continuing. Head back to the first area of the Tonal Plains just east of Melody Village and use the sword and bombs to reach the chest to the north and collect [TOKEN23]. Continue to the west side of Melody Village and bomb open the door of the vacant house that adjoins the Treasure Shop. Solve the block puzzle inside to collect [TOKEN24]. From the entrance the exact steps are left, push left, left, push up, up, left, up, up, push right, up, up, push right, right, push down, down, right, push right, right. Enter the Treasure Shop and talk to the cap'n repeatedly to be rewarded with two extra hearts and a pair of Reading Glasses. Return to Prelude Beach south of Melody Village and bomb the rock wall to the north-west to gain entry to the secret pirate den. Avoid the cacti, smash the pot and bomb the rock to reach the chest and collect [TOKEN25]. On opening the chest the cave door will close, but a button hidden under the pot in the south-east will reopen it. Head north through the Tonal Plains to reach Interlude Bridge, now repaired by the rescued builders. Before crossing there are two more treasure tokens to collect. On the left, first smash all of the pots and bomb all of the cracked blocks. Stand directly south of the chest, surrounded on three sides by blocks, and push left and right. Step right, push up, then push the block beneath the chest to the right and collect [TOKEN26]. On the right, smash the pot to the right of the builders and exit east. Follow the path around the lake to the back of the fields. Cut down the bushes then bomb the rock to collect [TOKEN27]. Return to Interlude Bridge and cross over to continue north. To enter the Signpost Studio the directions on the signposts must be followed exactly, starting with the signpost nearest to the south exit. Follow the direction indicated and read each sign directly in line with the previous. Where rocks need to be bombed be careful not to destroy any signposts, remembering that bombs will hit all adjacent tiles including diagonals. Reading the wrong sign will require the puzzle to be restarted. Enter the Signpost Studio after solving the signpost maze. Read the bottom-left signpost from behind. (Entering the Signpost Studio is technically unnecessary to progress, but awareness of messages on the back of signs as learnt here is important.) Exit the Signpost Studio and read the back of the sign directly to the right of the building to start the bonus round. Follow the directions on the back of the signs to spawn a chest and collect [TOKEN28]. Head north to the foot of Overtone Mountain and follow the stairs to reach the blocked cave entrance in the north-west. Bomb into the cave and bomb the rocks (starting with the sides to avoid taking damage) to reach the mountaineer. After talking with the mountaineer, collect [TOKEN29]. Head back outside and bomb the rocks to the right, moving back to the left to avoid the falling rocks triggered by each explosion. Walk down into the ladder beneath the tent to unravel it. To release the ladder above and to the right of the tent place a bomb directly below it at the cliff face. (It is also possible to release the lower ladder from below with a bomb as a speedrunning shortcut.) Climb the ladder and continue north up the mountain. Enter the cave to reappear out of the cave above. Enter the middle cave on the same level, then re-enter the cave just exited to appear out of the top left cave. Climb down the ladder and bomb the rock to collect [TOKEN30]. Enter the middle of the three caves, release the ladder, then enter the cave to the left. Place a bomb, re-enter the cave, then enter the cave to the left again after the rock has been destroyed. Continue past the Mountaineer's Hut and climb the ladder north to the peak of the mountain. Talk to Arabella for [CONVO4]. The torches on each side of the temple must be lit from underneath to gain entry. On the left side, stand two steps above the signpost and walk right into the wall. Numbered 1-3 from left to right, press button 2 first, then 3, then 1. On the right side, walk left into the wall in line with the bottom torch. Push the left block down, the middle block left, and the right block left. Exit the cave, climb the steps and enter Harmony Temple. Harmony Temple [LEVL3] ---------------------- Begin by heading through the east door. Press the button in the middle of the room to toggle the switch blocks, then press the button below to light the right torch in the entrance room. Press the central button to re-flip the switch blocks and return to the entrance. (The switch blocks in Harmony Temple are all connected, so all toggle together.) Press the button in the middle of the room, avoiding the holes, and continue west. Walk clockwise around the room, avoiding the retracting spikes, and push the block upwards to light the left torch in the entrance room. Return to the entrance room, press the button again, and exit north through the opened door. In the next room head east. Navigate the path around the room, avoiding the holes and the three arrows being fired from arrow traps in the walls. Press the button to lower the switch block and exit west. Open the chest to receive a key. Return to the three arrow room, press the button to raise the switch block, and navigate back around in reverse to exit west. Exit south to the entrance room, press the button and head west. Step over the retracting spikes and unlock the door with the key. Climb the stairs up into the room above. On entering the room the doors will close and arrows will be fired from the north wall. Stick to the bottom of the room and dodge left and right to avoid the arrows. After the fifth volley the arrows will stop and the doors will open. Place a bomb in the middle of the north wall. Head through the hole to find a secret room and [CODE3]. Return to the arrow trap room and exit east. Note the four unlit torches, then press the button and exit west. Exit south down the stairs and open the chest to obtain the Magic Arrows. Climb back up the stairs, survive the arrow trap room, continue east and press the button. With the switch blocks flipped return to the temple entrance. From the entrance, press the button and head through the east door. Press A to shoot the target in the top right corner of the room to open the door. Climb the stairs up into the room above. Smash the pots to reach the chest and receive a key, then return to the temple entrance. Head north and push the central block to the side. Shoot the target in the middle of the north wall to open the door to the west. Head east to travel back around the three arrow room and press the button, then return and exit through the newly opened west doorway. Shoot all five targets quickly to light all five torches at the same time, spawning a key. Collect the key, unlock the door to the north and continue. Dodge past the arrow trap and head east. Push the block to the right, press the button, then take one step down and another back up to press the button again while facing north with a clear shot at the target. Shoot the target to open the door to the east. Head through the opened door and smash the pots to read the sign. The riddle refers to the three arrow room you have passed through several times. Exit west, press the button, and continue west. Dodge past the arrow trap and shoot the target on the north wall to light the top left torch in the four torch room. Exit east, push the block to the right, then press the button. Exit west and return to the three arrow room. The "rightmost eyes" of the riddle refer to the two rightmost arrow traps on the north wall. Press the button to raise the switch block then place a bomb between the arrow traps. Exit north through the hole, shoot the pots, and then shoot the target on the north wall to light the top right torch in the four torch room. Return to the temple entrance, head east and up the stairs. Break all the pots in the room to reveal an arrow pattern drawn on the floor. Place a bomb in the middle of the west wall where the arrow is pointing and exit through the hole. Of the three central blocks directly to the left, push the top and bottom to the left and the middle up or down to pass into the centre of the room. Exit south. Dodge past the arrows and head through the west doorway. Smash the pot in the bottom right of the room to reveal a button. Press the button to flip the switch blocks, the shoot both pots in the top left from across the hole, revealing another switch. Press the button in the bottom right, then push the left block up and the right block right to reach the second switch. Press the switch then shoot the target on the west wall to light the bottom left torch in the four torch room. Head back down the east staircase and press the central button. Head back up the stairs and again exit south from the four torch room. Dodge past the arrows and head through the east doorway. Smash the top pot and push the adjacent block to the right. Take one step down and shoot the pot below. Smash the pot in the bottom left corner and push the bottom block to the right. Push the block above upwards then shoot the target on the east wall to light the bottom right torch in the four torch room. Return to the four torch room now all four torches are lit and head north through the opened door. Try to exit the room to trigger the boss. Automatone [BOSS3] ------------------ Dodge the arrows and shoot the target when it rotates into view. Getting too close to the Automatone will cause it to breathe fire, dealing heavy damage and forcing Leit to step back. When the switch blocks rise, stand behind them to avoid being hit by a full width volley of arrows. When the switch blocks drop again the target is about to rotate into view, so get ready to shoot! (It's possible, but difficult, to shoot the target twice in one rotation, shortening the fight.) After the target rotation, the Automatone will alternate shooting arrows down the sides of the room and down the middle, starting with the side. Dodge left and right to avoid those volleys. The switch blocks will then rise again and the pattern will repeat. After one hit, one switch block will drop before the full width volley is fired. After two hits, two switch blocks will drop. After three hits, two switch blocks will drop, a volley will be fired, then another block will drop and a second volley will be fired. After four hits the Automatone will be defeated. Exit east and collect the Sacred Bell of Resolve! Back to the Beginning [PART4] ----------------------------- After obtaining the Sacred Bell of Resolve, use the warp to return to the entrance to Harmony Temple. Ensure the switch blocks on the left are lowered and the switch blocks on the right are raised, then exit south. Talk with Arabella then climb southwards down the ladder. Enter the Mountaineer's Hut and shoot the target to reveal a ladder in the centre of the room. Climb down the ladder and collect [TOKEN31]. Leave the Mountaineer's Hut, climb down the ladder, bomb the rock and shoot the cactus. Enter the cave on the right. On exiting the cave, shoot the cactus to the left and walk behind the wall to collect [TOKEN32]. Enter the cave on the far right to head south down the mountain. Climb down the ladders and enter the cave in the south-east. Inside the cave, shoot the target then push the right block to the left. Walk to the north-west corner and shoot the pot below. Shoot the target again and push the left block to the left, then collect [TOKEN33]. Exit the cave, climb the first two sets of stairs back up the mountain, then turn right, cut down the bushes and bomb the rock to reveal a ladder. Climb down the ladder into Undertone Grotto. The switch blocks inside are linked to those in Harmony Temple and should be set down, so collect [TOKEN34]. Head south to the Tonal Plains past Interlude Bridge. Bomb the rock east of the Wishing Pond to reveal a ladder, and climb down. Smash the bottom right pot to reveal a button. Press it, then bomb the cracked block. Press the button again then push the top block to the left. Shoot the target to drain the Wishing Pond. Climb back up to the surface and collect [TOKEN35] from the bottom of the pond. Head west back to Melody Village. On the far west side of the village, shoot the cacti to collect [TOKEN36]. Enter Arabella's house to trigger her return. Talk to her again for [CONVO5]. Enter the Treasure Shop and talk to the cap'n repeatedly to be rewarded with a Cat Bell, an extra heart, and a pair of Ballet Shoes. Place a bomb behind the sign to the right of the vacant house, walk left into a hidden room and collect [TOKEN37]. Head to Prelude Beach south of Melody Village and shoot the cacti to the right of the stairs to reach the cave entrance. Inside the cave, bomb the cracked block, stand where it was and shoot the pot to the right to trigger a chain of explosions. Push the block to the right and climb the ladder to collect [TOKEN38]. Return to the beach, take one step left from the stairs, then move down to enter a hidden cave. Cut down the bush and collect [TOKEN39]. (A clue to this location is written on the back of a sign near where Leit woke up.) Head west along the beach to Bass Cove Fishing Spot and place a bomb at the end of the pier. Walk out across the water and exit west to find the secret Debug Island. Read the back of the sign to learn [CODE4] and [CODE5]. Head east along the beach and shoot the cactus to continue. The chest to the far east can only be opened at full health. The Ballet Shoes allow Leit to turn on the spot using the crank. Do so to shoot the cacti blocking the chest without taking any damage and collect [TOKEN40]. Return to the Treasure Shop and talk to the cap'n repeatedly to be rewarded with an extra heart and to be told of the final treasure hidden in the first chest you opened. To reach the chests behind the counter, enter the vacant house next door and bomb the top of the west wall. Walk through into the Treasure Shop and collect [TOKEN41] and [TOKEN42]. There is no extra reward for collecting the final two tokens, but they might be useful if you missed any others. Now head for the first chest you opened, likely on Prelude Beach. Open the chest to obtain the Treasure Sword. This sword destroys rocks and cacti! Head to the far east of Prelude Beach. Talk to Arabella for [CONVO6], then enter Final Passage. Final Passage [LEVL4] --------------------- Cut a path through the bushes, rocks and cacti to continue north into the central room. Six locks in the northern wall surround the Bell Door, requiring six keys and the three sacred bells to be opened. Smash the top left pot to reveal a button that opens the west door. In the next room some of the water tiles can be walked over. Shoot all of the floating pots to open the north door, and head through to trigger a mini-boss. The "shadow" moves erratically and will close in on and attack Leit with its bare hands, so be careful! The shadow can be hurt with sword, bombs and arrows, but arrows make the fight easiest by keeping distance between Leit and the shadow. Four of the pots around the edges of the room contain hearts if needed. After seven hits the shadow will start fleeing from Leit, and after ten hits will be defeated. Collect the key that spawns and exit south. Head further west to a room with a fence down the middle, separating pots floating in water to the left from pots on land to the right. Smash pots on land to mirror the pattern of pots in the water to spawn a key. The exact pots needing to be smashed in the top half are top-left and bottom-middle, and in the bottom half are top-right, top-middle, and middle. After collecting the key, exit and re-enter the room to reset the puzzle. Leave the pots that needed to be smashed to solve the puzzle alone and instead smash all of the other pots. The central fence tile will disappear. Walk across the water and place a bomb in the middle of the west wall. Exit west to find a secret room and [CODE6]. Return to the central room and talk to Arabella for [CONVO7]. Arabella will provide healing and hints towards any keys that have not yet been found. Destroy the cracked block and push the top right block to the left to open the east door and continue east. In the next room walking between pairs of torches (other than those against the walls) will toggle them between lit and unlit. Light all torches to open the north door. From the entrance an exact solution is to take six steps east, two steps south, two steps west and one step north. Exit north into a room with three blocks. In order push the left block right, the middle block down, and the right block left. Collect the key that spawns and exit south. Head further east to a room with a chest in the centre. The bridge below the chest will disappear after a short time, but don't worry (it can just be reached in time if you are very quick, but you don't need to be). Instead place a bomb in the middle of the east wall to open an opposite approach. Exit and re-enter the room from the east, destroy the cacti and easily cross the bridge in time to obtain a key. Head east to another room with some passable water tiles. First press the button to the north-west, then press the button to the south-east, and finally open the chest to get another key. From the entrance the exact steps are right, right, right, up, up, up, left, left, down, up, right, right, right, right, down, down, left, left, down, down, down, right, right, down, up, left, left, down, left, left. Reverse the directions to leave. Return to the central room and exit south to the entrance room. Use a hidden path across the water to first destroy all of the bushes, then destroy all of the rocks, and finally destroy all of the cacti to spawn a final key. Return to the central room, place all six keys in the locks, then open the Bell Door. If you unlocked enough conversations with Arabella she will speak a bonus line of dialogue when the door is opened. Proceed through the Bell Door and walk north through the scrolling corridor. Step through the door to trigger the boss. Pandemonium [BOSS4] ------------------- Shoot arrows to damage the shield and attack with the sword when the shield is down. Shooting the shield while directly adjacent to Pan will deal Leit damage, so keep at a distance and only move in close when the shield drops. The shield will drop for a short window after being shot five times. To begin with, Pan will repeatedly spawn patterns of five exploding notes around the room. Stick in the middle below Pan and keep firing arrows. The third note of every pattern will target the middle, so always move left or right momentarily to avoid it. After one hit, Pan will alternate between spawning exploding notes and sending a wave of electricity horizontally across the screen. The beams will always hit every other column, so stick to the middle column beneath Pan to remain safe while continuing to fire arrows at the shield. After two hits, Pan will add a third attack pattern, firing musical notes like arrows from the top of the room. Get to the centre beneath Pan before the attack starts and don't move for its duration. Moving in the middle will cause an extra arrow to be fired down the middle, but otherwise it remains safe. After four hits, Pan will be defeated. Leit is cast asleep, triggering a final phase! Coda [FINAL] ------------ Swirling vortices that cause damage will continuously spawn, including beneath Leit, so just keep moving and avoiding them until Arabella's voice is heard. Notes from the three sacred bells will fly horizontally across the room. Catch three to defeat Coda. Wake up, speak with Arabella, then walk north into the Sacred Spring and enjoy the end of the game! Arabella's House [CONVO5] ------------------------- After: Obtaining the Sacred Bell of Resolve Before: Reaching the beach with the entrance to Final Passage Outside Final Passage [CONVO6] ------------------------------ After: Reaching the beach with the entrance to Final Passage Before: Venturing past the central room in Final Passage Inside Final Passage [CONVO7] ----------------------------- After: Venturing past the central room in Final Passage Before: Unlocking the Bell Door in Final Passage Whack-a-Mole [WAMOLE] ===================== The whack-a-mole minigame can be found in a cave in the central Tonal Plains, north-west of the Wishing Pond, accessible with the bombs. In each round a total of 30 moles will pop up from the mole holes. Hitting each mole will earn one point. The current high score is displayed on the nearby sign and is initially set at 13. Strategy -------- While beatable using the sword alone, it is much easier to also use arrows. Stick within the horizontal space between the bottom and middle rows, using the sword on any adjacent moles, and use arrows to shoot any moles that spawn on the top row. Some luck is still needed, but using this technique it shouldn't take long to set a very high score. Dialogue -------- The geologist has different dialogue at the end of each round depending on Leit's score. Different dialogue can be obtained for scores of 0, 1, 2-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, and 30 points. They will additionally congratulate Leit on setting a new high score. Rewards ------- There is no reward for beating the initial high score of 13, but setting a high score of 25 or over will earn Leit the "Respect of Moles". The moles in the Tonal Plains will no longer attack Leit and can instead be spoken with! Cheating -------- It's also possible to cheat and change the high score by interacting with the back of the sign while the geologist is looking the other way. Stand to the left of the geologist so that they turn to face Leit, then quickly dash to the back of the sign. The geologist has a short delay in turning to follow which is just a long enough window to make it. Changing the high score to 99 has the same effect as setting a high score of 25 or over legitimately. The high score can also be reset, making moles hostile once more. Calendar Events [EVENTS] ======================== Play Resonant Tale on certain dates throughout the year to discover these little extras. There are twelve calendar events in total, one for each month of the year, coinciding with different real world celebrations. Events are triggered when launching the game by checking the Playdate's system clock. January 1st - New Year ---------------------- Welcome in the new year as Melody Village is decorated with kadomatsu. Interact with them for a New Year's greeting! February 14th - Love Day ------------------------ Love is in the air and roses are in bloom around Melody Village on Love Day. March 17th - Luck Day --------------------- Lucky four leaf clovers can be found growing around Melody Village on Luck Day. April 1st (until 12pm) - Fools Day ---------------------------------- Before midday on Fools Day is a time for pranks, which in Melody Village means many treasure chests to open! May 1st - May Day ----------------- On the first day of May the trees in Melody Village have bunting strung across them to celebrate the arrival of summer. June 21st - Midsummer --------------------- The summer solstice marks Midsummer, and in Melody Village it's traditional for residents to grow sunflowers. They grow big enough to interact with! July 7th - Star Day ------------------- In Melody Village (and Tempo Castle) wishes are written on tanzaku and hung from the trees on Star Day. Go ahead and read all of the wishes the residents have made! August 11th - Mountain Day -------------------------- Mountain Day is a day to appreciate mountains. Look out for a special signpost at the foot of Overtone Mountain! September 19th - Yarr Day! -------------------------- Yarr! September 19th be Talk Like a Pirate Day! Ye should set sail for the Treasure Shop in Melody Village and talk to the cap'n! October 31st - Halloween ------------------------ Trick or treat! For Halloween Melody Village is decorated with spooky pumpkins. Try interacting with them! November 5th (from 6pm) - Fireworks ----------------------------------- Watch out for a gunpowder plot! In the evening there'll be explosive pots placed all around Melody Village. December 24th-26th - Yuletide ----------------------------- For three days the trees in Melody Village are decorated with twinkling lights, bringing festive cheer to the cold winter nights! Hardcore mode is unlocked on first completing the game or by inputting a cheat code, and can be selected from the main menu. The signpost nearest to where Leit wakes up on the beach is changed in hardcore mode to explain the rules of the mode rather than basic movement controls. An additional shortcut is available in hardcore mode through the Timbre Woods. At the stream with two bridges, the topmost of which leads to the picnic spot, the stream leading off-screen to the north is passable, cutting off much of the woods. This makes hardcore mode theoretically faster to speedrun. The end screen displays when the game was played in hardcore mode, and a different final music track plays. Secrets [SECRET] ================ Here are some of the secrets hidden in Resonant Tale... Upgraded Pots ------------- Break over 200 pots then talk to the Potter and the chance of a pot containing a heart will be doubled. Secret Song ----------- Wait inside the Pottery Studio for one minute and a secret song will play. The secret song will also play during the end credits after Arabella's Theme. Bonus Dialogue -------------- Leave a level after obtaining the item inside but before defeating the boss and most characters will have new, unique dialogue! Hidden Rooms ------------ Each level contains a secret room. For Tempo Keep, Harmony Temple and Final Passage search for [CODE2], [CODE3], and [CODE6] in the walkthrough. The secret room in the Spirit Shrine can only be accessed with the bombs. Return to the shrine, use the warp and exit south from the boss room. Place a bomb in the middle of the east wall to access the secret room. The bookshelf in the north-east corner provides an explanation on how to use the codes found in the other secret rooms! Friendly Prison Guards ---------------------- The sleeping guard outside Leit's prison cell in Tempo Keep can be woken up with a bomb or by smashing the pot they are asleep next to. They can then be spoken to and will keep track of how many times Leit has been caught. Return to the dungeon after obtaining the Sacred Bell of Order and the guard will have a unique line of dialogue if Leit escaped without ever being caught. On returning to the dungeon with the Bell of Order, the guards are no longer hostile. The guard in the middle of three cells can be spoken with for another hidden line of dialogue. The Barracks Chests ------------------- The Guard Barracks is in the north-west of Tempo Castle, entered by walking west into a hidden door directly opposite the dungeon exit. Keep trying to open the chests inside and eventually Leit will be able to open all but one of them. I wonder what's inside? The Juice Bar ------------- The Juice Bar is in the south-west of Tempo Castle, entered by walking west into a hidden door. The barkeep shares randomised hints to treasure tokens in the vicinity of the castle and the jukebox can be used to play music. For more fun, try the following interactions: - Talking to the barkeep from behind the counter - Bombing the jukebox (with a track playing) - Talking to the barkeep after bombing the jukebox - Bombing the barkeep Potion of the Day ----------------- A different potion can be drunk in the Potion Shop on each day of the week, according to the Playdate system clock, and each has a different effect: - Sun = Chicken & Mushroom (heals 7 hearts) - Mon = Minestrone (deals 1 heart of damage) - Tue = Leek & Potato (heals 5 hearts) - Wed = Carrot & Coriander (heals 3 hearts) - Thu = Gazpacho (heals 1 heart) - Fri = Mushroom Medley (randomly heals 1-8 hearts) - Sat = Tomato & Apple (deals 2 hearts of damage) The Magicat's Hidden Technique ------------------------------ Talk to the cat inside the Potion Shop after obtaining both the Cat Bell and the Ballet Shoes from the Treasure Shop, and they will teach Leit how to fast travel between the Potion Shop, the Soothsayer's Shop, and the library beneath the Mountaineer's Hut (by spinning clockwise on the spot inside those locations). When warping, Leit's relative position in the room is maintained. For more fun, try: - Warping into the Potion Shop cauldron - Warping onto the broom and reading the back of the sign in the library The Monster of the Lake ----------------------- After obtaining the Reading Glasses from the Treasure Shop, the diary on the shelf in Arabella's house can be read (providing she is not in the room), providing a hint to this secret. A reference to the monster of the lake can also be found in a book in the secret room in the Spirit Shrine. To find the monster, head east from Interlude Bridge to Tonal Lake. Wait for 10 seconds and Nessie will appear from the lake! Leit's Nightmarish Vision ------------------------- The bed in the Mountaineer's Hut can be interacted with and, if Leit is not at full health, can be slept in to heal. Sleep in the bed and quit the game while the screen is black. On relaunching the game and selecting "Continue", Leit will have a nightmarish vision of the final boss before waking up! The Old Man of the Mountain --------------------------- In the hidden library beneath the Mountaineer's Hut, the three rightmost shelves all provide hints to finding the Old Man of the Mountain. To find the old man, the three caves above the Mountaineer's Hut must be entered in the specific order BCACB (labelling the caves A, B, C from left to right). Entering other caves to return to the three will not interrupt the sequence. The old man lists various achievements, some from the current playthrough and some that persist across playthroughs. The Potlergeist can be found hiding in a random pot in Melody Village, after completing the trading quest and lowering the castle drawbridge. Every time Leit finds the Potlergeist they will flee and hide in a different pot. The Changeling can be found inside the circus tent outside Tempo Castle, after obtaining the Sacred Bell of Resolve. Try bombing the Changeling as well as talking to them! Reel-istic Easter Egg --------------------- Try to continue past Debug Island to find a reference to the Playdate game "Reel-istic Fishing".
